The German Society for Contemporary Theatre and Drama in English is pleased to announce its upcoming 24th Annual Conference, Theatre and Spectatorship
The 2015 CDE conference addresses the ongoing debate on the activity of the spectator in relation to contemporary drama and theatre in English worldwide. Among others, it aims to investigate questions such as the shift from 'audiences' to 'spectators', the dramaturgical encoding of the spectator, the potential of immersive and participatory theatrical practices, or the role of empathy, emotion and affect in theatrical reception. An empirical perspective will be combined with a reflection on the theoretical and methodological tools that may throw light on or, indeed, help to transform our understanding of theatrical spectatorship. For more details see the call for papers.
The conference is organized by the Contemporary British Theatre Barcelona research group, based at the Department of English and German at the University of Barcelona, and will be held from 4-7 June 2015 as a residential conference at Residència Salesiana Martí-Codolar in Barcelona.
