Dr. Olga Jubany Baucells

Director of the European Social Research Unit

Dr. Olga Jubany, is Reader at the Social Anthropology Department at the Universitat de Barcelona. She is a social anthropologist, author of several investigations and publications in the fields of social exclusion, social cohesion, social control and identity, from an ethnographic tradition, adopting the intersectional approach. Her work engages in topics of gender, age, migration and the labour market, with particular focus on comparative multidisciplinary research within the European framework. Dr. Jubany has a long international trajectory, having obtained her PhD at the London School of Economics (UK) where she was teacher and researcher for over 5 years.

Her current research includes the international coordination for the research project LinkAge: Labour Market Integration of Vulnerable Age Groups through Social Dialogue (DG Employment, Social Affairs & Inclusion), and the scientific coordination of the FP7 project CITISPYCE: Combating Inequalites through Innovative Social Practices of and for Young People in Cities across Europe. She was the international coordinator for the recently concluded investigation TEAM: Trade Unions, Economic Change, and Active Inclusion of Migrant Workers (2010-2012) under DG Employment, Social Affairs, and Equality, and GENDERACE: The use of racial anti-discrimination laws: gender and citizenship in a multicultural context, funded by the EC FP7-SSH programme, and participated in PROSINT: Promoting Sustainable Policies for Integration, funded from EC- DG of Justice, Freedom and Security. Dr. Jubany regularly participates in national and international conferences and debates.

Dr Miguel Pajares Alonso,

In-House Consultant

Doctor on Anthropology, Miguel Pajares is principal investigator and scientific advisor of the ESRU participating directly in the research projects and also a researcher of the Research Group on Exclusion and Social Control (GRECS). Dr. Pajares is since 2009 the representative of Spain in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the expert selected by the Economic and Social European Committee for the elaboration of reports on migration issues since 2001. He has also been  President of the Catalan Committee for the Support of Refugees since 2001. Between 1996 and 2000 he was advisor to the Catalan Government on migration-related subjects. He has written extensively on immigration issues in Spain, especially from a socioeconomic perspective. Dr. Pajares’ recent publications include:

Berta Güell Torrent

Researcher 

Berta Güell is a graduate in Political Sciences of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), has a postgraduate degree in ‘Immigration and Reception’ (Immigració i Acollida) and an MA in Sociological Research from the University of Barcelona. She is currently a PhD student in Sociology at the UAB. Ms. Güell’s experience covers work with intercultural projects between Latin America and Germany, as well as issues of antidiscrimination. She was the primary Research Officer responsible for the direction and conduction of the national fieldwork within the EC FP7 Genderace project including data analysis and the elaboration of national and European comparative reports and conducted the fieldwork and analysis for the PROSINT and TEAM projects. She is also responsible for the creation of research proposals at the national and regional level, as well as for providing support to the European project proposals.

Malin Roiha

Research Assistant/Assistant Projects Coordinator

Malin Roiha holds an MA in Social Anthropology from Stockholm University. She is responsible for the elaboration of research proposals for calls at the European level and is currently involved in the coordination and research tasks of the projects LinkAge and CITISPYCE.
