University admission procedures for students who have begun a university degree course, or a course of an equivalent academic level, at a university or institution of higher education abroad.

Students who have begun their university studies (including studies in an institution of higher education or technical studies) abroad and who wish to continue these studies at the University of Barcelona should seek to have their foreign studies recognized.

Students who are already holders of a foreign university degree should consult completed studies.

Procedures

1. Students should apply to the faculty or university school or affiliated centres in the University of Barcelona where they wish to study. (The application form can be obtained at this UB faculty or university school or affiliated centres).

2. Students will need to present the following documentation:

  • Accreditation of nationality, issued by the pertinent authorities in the applicant’s home country, or a certified copy of the applicant’s passport or residency permit in Spain, or, if the applicant is a Spanish citizen, a certified copy of the national identity card.
  • Academic certificate of the foreign studies completed and which the applicant wishes to have recognized, showing the grades awarded, as well as the minimum grade required in order to pass the subjects.
  • Record of subjects passed bearing the foreign University’s stamp.
  • The syllabus of the degree begun by the applicant, listing the subjects of which it is comprised and stating the duration of the course in academic years, and bearing the foreign University’s stamp.

All documents must be original, having been issued by the pertinent authorities and duly authenticated and officially translated.

Original documents can be handed in with a photocopy and will be returned to the interested party once certified as being a true copy. If the photocopies have been previously certified as being a true copy before a lawyer or before the consular or diplomatic representatives of Spain in the country in which the documents were issued, the applicant need not present the original at the same time.

3. The committee in the faculty or university school or affiliated centres appointed to deal with these matters will consider the application for recognition but, in all circumstances, it will do so in accordance with officially established guidelines.

4. The student will be informed of the decision taken.

Subjects recognized by another university cannot be considered as being valid by the University undertaking the present recognition procedure, unless these subjects have been specifically ratified in this new recognition procedure.

Students failing to register for the subjects recognized by this decision within a period of three years will have to resubmit their application before commencing their studies.

Applying for admission

Under no circumstances can the granting of recognition be understood to mean that the student has been admitted to the faculty or university school; admission depends on the subsequent evaluation of the equivalence between the subjects taken by the student and those on the syllabus of the faculty or school in which the student wishes to continue studying.

Students should apply for admission to the following offices, depending on the decision regarding their application for recognition:

1. Students granted recognition for fewer than 60 credits

should complete a pre-registration requesting admission — applications have to be made by the end of the first week of July in the year the student wishes to begin their studies. Contact:

2. Students granted recognition for more than 60 credits

should apply to the dean’s office or to the faculty’s governing body for a place — applications have to be received by the date established by each faculty or school, but in all cases before the month of August in the year in which the student wishes to begin their studies.

3. Students denied recognition

but who still wish to be admitted to the university should follow the procedures outlined for students who have not yet begun university studies
