University admission procedures for students
holding a degree certificate, or a certificate of an equivalent
academic level, awarded by a university or centre of higher education
abroad and who wish to continue their studies
Students who have finished their studies at a
university or centre of higher education abroad and who wish to
continue their studies at the University of Barcelona can either:
Apply to validate their degree
as an official Spanish university qualification
or
Apply to have their studies
recognized as being equivalent to the corresponding Spanish studies
Students should be aware that these two
procedures cannot be undertaken simultaneously and that if validation has been
denied, they may only apply for partial recognition of their studies,
provided that validation was not denied for any of the following
reasons:
- Degrees and diplomas with the sole endorsement
of a university (and not officially recognized by the state’s
ministry of education)
- Spanish degrees based on a syllabus no longer
being taught or a syllabus not yet fully implemented
- Foreign degrees that have no official academic
validity in their country of issue
- Degrees corresponding to foreign studies undertaken,
either fully or partially, in Spain, in institutions not authorized
to teach these courses.
- Degrees that have previously been validated
in Spain or for which partial recognition has previously been
solicited in order to continue studying in Spain.
Applications for validation of a degree awarded
abroad should be sent to:
The
Ministry of Education, Social Policy and Sport
Department of Academic Qualifications, Recognitions and Validations
Paseo del Prado, 28
28014 Madrid
Tel. (34) 902 218 500
Fax (34) 917 018 600
Students can be admitted to:
A. Undergraduate courses — first cycle or first
and second cycle (diplomas, first cycle degrees, second cycle degrees
and engineering degrees)
1. Students that have obtained
validation can be admitted to all faculties, and university and
technical schools in Catalonia, and should complete a pre-registration
requesting admission.
2. Students that have chosen
to apply directly to the University for the partial recognition
of their studies, will be in one of the following positions:
- If they have been granted recognition for 60
credits or more, then they can apply directly to the faculty or
school.
- If they have been granted recognition for fewer
than 60 credits, then they should complete a pre-registration
requesting admission.
If students have to complete a pre-registration,

B. Postgraduate courses
In the new European university framework these programs have a specific academic value.

Many of the programs prepare students for doctorate studies and research, but they also provide specialized professional training for university graduates already working in other areas. |
| The academic year 2006-2007 marks the beginning of the UB's incorporation in the European Higher Education Area, so that while the University will continue to offer doctoral programs according to the stipulations of the Spanish Government's Royal Decree 778/98 it will now also be possible for students to follow official postgraduate programs leading to a PhD qualification. |
The University of Barcelona Group offers the student the most complete program of multidisciplinary and cross-disciplinary postgraduate courses in Catalonia and one of the widest in Spain.
You can choose between a Masters degree (more than 30 credits), a Postgraduate diploma (more than 15 credits) or a certificate of attainment (fewer than 15 credits).
You can also choose between programs taught on campus, on-line or courses that combine both tuition methods. |
