Royal Decree 285/2004 (20/02/04), Royal Decree 309/2005 (18/03/04), and the Agreement of October 25 2004 made by the University Coordination Council at the Spanish Ministry of Science and Education establish guidelines for the general application of validation and adaptation procedures for university studies.
These guidelines cannot be applied to those subjects validated in another university, except when these subjects have been ratified in the student's validated academic record.
For all those authorisations for validation which have not been used through registration during a period of three years, students must request a formal revision.
Compulsory or optional subjects completed in one course of study may not be applied to another as free-choice subjects, and free-choice subjects are only transferable from one course of study to another when those same subjects are compulsory or optional in the second course of study. When this is the case, those free-choice subjects may be validated.
A distinction should be drawn between the following cases:
UNIVERSITY STUDIES IN SPAIN
- When different study courses lead to the same qualification, they will be adapted.
- When different study courses lead to different qualifications, they may be validated so that their contents and their number of class hours are equivalent.
UNIVERSITY STUDIES ABROAD
- Study courses that are completed abroad and that have contents and a number of class hours equivalent to those courses leading to an official qualification may be validated.
Adaptation
UNIVERSITY STUDIES IN SPAIN
- Transferring a student's academic record
When students who are following an official course of study in another university centre and who have successfully completed subjects carrying a total of 60 or more credits wish to transfer to the same course of studies in the UB, this transfer will need to be authorised by an adaptation of the the student's academic record by that centre granting the transfer.
Validation
UNIVERSITY STUDIES IN SPAIN LEADING TO DIFFERENT OFFICIAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Those subjects may be validated when their contents and number of class hours are equivalent.
Applications must be made in the centre where the student has been granted a place, and accompanied by the following documents:
- the student's academic certificate
- the syllabi of all successfully completed subjects
