Your temporary student card will give you access to many of the services offered to the UB's students, as well as a number of specific services provided solely for temporary visiting students.

Computer rooms

You can use the computer facilities in the UB faculty or school in which you are registered on presentation of your temporary student card.

Library

You have access to the services of the Library of the University of Barcelona (BUB).

Shopping: books and stationery

You can shop at any of the University Bookshops on the UB campuses.

E-mail and academic file

After the inscription of the subjects (academic inscription) the students making a temporary stay at the UB have a personal web space, in which besides having an account of electronic mail, it will be able also to accede to the academic file.

To access you will need the identifier that you can find in your academic inscription and the password that you have created.

Catalan courses

At the start of each semester, the UB's Catalan Language Service (Serveis Lingüísitics) offers to temporary visiting students a free Catalan course for beginners. You will find information about Catalan courses visiting the following web site:

You should also visit the website Information for participants on Exchange Programmes to obtain information about Catalan at the University of Barcelona and opportunities to learn catalan: language courses and the range of language learning materials and resources available for self-study on the internet.

Spanish courses

Estudios Hispánicos on the Plaça Universitat Campus, organises Spanish courses for Erasmus and Bilateral Agreement exchange students.

The courses for Socrates-Erasmus and Bilateral Agreement exchange students during the 2008-2009 academic year are scheduled as follows:

  • SEMI INTENSIVE SPANISH COURSE (elementary and intermediate levels)

    Course dates: 02-09-2008 to 17-09-2008, from 15,45 to 20,15
    Registration period: 03-09-2008 to 04-09-2008 from 9 to 14
  • REGULAR SPANISH COURSE (intermediate level)
    Level test: 17-10-2008 at 10:00
    Publication of groups and schedules: 22-10-2008 at 10:00
    Course dates: 23-10-2008 to 11-12-2008
    Registration period: 23-10-2008 to 28-10-2008 from 9 to 14
  • REGULAR SPANISH COURSE (elementary and intermediate levels)
    for 2nd semester exchange students
    Level test:
    13-02-2009 at 10:00
    Publication of groups and schedules:
    16-02-2009 at 10:00
    Course dates: 17-02-2009 to 23-04-2009
    Registration period: 17-02-2009 to 20-02-2009 from 9 to 14

To enrol on these courses, students must:
a) have been admitted to the UB as a Socrates-Erasmus or Bilateral Agreement student
b) take the level test on the dates given above (students do not have to enrol in order to take the level test)

The course fee is 106 €.

University dining halls

Most of the faculties and university schools have restaurants and cafeterias. There is also a main university dining hall on the Pedralbes Campus, near the Faculty of Fine Arts (Facultat de Belles Arts), which offers a fixed price menu and a self-service restaurant.

Sports

Esports UB, the UB's Sports Service on the Diagonal Campus, is a large sports complex that offers members of the University of Barcelona the opportunity to participate in a wide range of sporting activities.
Temporary visiting students can use the facilities on payment of a membership fee calculated on the basis of the length of your stay in the University of Barcelona.

Welcome sessions in the UB faculties and schools

Most of the faculties and schools at the University of Barcelona organize welcome sessions for students on international exchange programmes at the beginning of each semester. Usually you receive details in your letter of acceptance.
