Amilcar Torrão Filho (Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo, PUC-SP) gives the seminar "Nomadic Eternity. Gender Performativity in the Travel Narratives by Isabelle Eberhardt / Mahmoud Saad". In this seminar, he analyzes the travel writings by Isabelle Eberhardt (1877-1904), writer and traveler of Russian origin who lived several years cross-dressed as a Sufi mystic and under the name Mahmoud Saad in order to overcome the limitations that restrict women's life in the desert. This lecture is the result of the project "Female Defectors and Modern Pariahs" (FEM2017-83974- / P MINECO / AEI / FEDER, EU) and "Gender (s) and Language (s) in the Contemporary Arabness" (PGC2018-100959 -B-I00 MCIU / AEI / ERDF, EU). Activity open to people interested.
