How does Political Theory conceptualize the figure of the pariah and the defector? How do the figures of exclusion and social mobility represent popular fiction? What sort of characters are giving birth to these conceptual figures in speculative fiction, autobiography, young adult fiction, graphic novel or video games? What is the female and feminist genealogy of these displacement figures? How to configure the trans figure as a defector? The Seminar "Defectors and Pariahs in Twenty-First Popular Culture", coordinated by Sara Martín (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona) and Helena González Fernández (ADHUC-University of Barcelona), brings together specialists in literature, popular culture, and feminist theory in order to examine representations of exclusion and mobility. This seminar will consist of conferences given by Sara Martín and À. Lorena Fuster (Seminar Philosophy and Gender-ADHUC), lectures and conversations on the experiences of exclusion and vulnerability with Adina Mocanu (ADHUC-Universitatea din Craiova), Pablo Cáceres (University of Barcelona), and Lorena Franco (MA at University of Barcelona). This seminar is the result of the projects "Female Defectors and Modern Pariahs: Gender and Exclusion in Twenty-First Popular Culture" (FEM2017-83974- / P MINECO / AEI / FEDER, EU), and "Vulnerability in Women's Philosophical Thought: Contributions to the Debate around Present Emergencies" (PGC2018-094463-B-100 MCIU / AEI / ERDF, EU). Assistance open to people interested.
