Hee-Jung Serenity Joo, professor at the University of Manitoba, will hold the seminar "We are the world (but only at the end of the world). Survival and precarity in contemporary disaster film". Hee-Jung Serenity Joo is an authority on the fields of critical race theory, ethnic literature, globalization, speculative fiction and cinema studies, where she specializes in disaster films. Her research focuses on the development of the literary genre of disaster at the beginning of the 21st century. She has published on the issues of race, gender and speculative fiction in Larissa Lai, Octavia Butler, George Schuyler and Karen Tei Yamashita.
