Avant-Garde Feminists

Opening Debate within the Exhibition FEMINISMES!

What role did avant-garde artists play in the reconfiguration of feminism? We will talk with Marta Segarra and Gabriele Schor, curators of the "Feminisms!" Project, and with the artists Esther Ferrer and Ulrike Rosenbach, protagonists of the avant-garde movement.

In the 1970s, with unprecedented courage and creativity, a new generation of women artists radically updated the languages and codes with which women and femininity had previously been represented. This insurgent art not only liberated women from the masculine gaze, but also expanded the possibilities of thinking on key issues such as normality, difference, or intimacy.

This round table will explore the continuities and ruptures between the "unexpected subjects" of this pioneering feminism and the territories and issues that contemporary feminisms explore from the arts nowadays.
