Meeting AQUASYN

30/05/13 - 31/05/13

AQUASYN LEAFLET

One of the main consequences of prolonged water shortage in the countries that participate in the Consortium (especially the Mediterranean Countries) is the unsafe water supply that finds an increasing percentage of the population satisfying their potable and cooking needs with previously stored (large plastic deposits) and packaged (plastic and glass bottles) water. Bottled water consumption at home or at work is increasing for all the partner countries, especially in areas of these countries where prolonged droughts and intermittent water supplies or home tap water quality complaints have shifted citizens’ preference to bottled water. The number of enterprises dealing with production and distribution of bottled water in urban areas has grown dramatically over the past 10 years in the partner countries. Bottled water enterprises are charged with the responsibility to deliver excellent quality drinking-water for homeowners or more recently to employees of private small businesses, organizations (Universities), large corporations (banks, etc.). Complaints about deteriorated bottled water quality at the point of use by customers do exist, but enterprises’ solutions are more temporary than actual long-term solutions, compromising their marketability and accountability to their customers at some point in time. The project, taking into consideration this fact, aims to develop the knowledge and skills of the personnel of these enterprises through training sessions developed by the universities and dedicated companies.

Aims and Objectives of the project

The Main Aim of the project, given the advanced research that is already being made in the universities, is to organize training of the personnel of the enterprises on the ways they can valorize the research results produced by university research.

The General Objectives of the project are the following:

·    Improvement of the quality of the bottled water through the transfer of expertise from higher education organizations to enterprises working in the sector.
·    Increase of the competitiveness of the small and medium bottled water companies through the assurance of the quality of their products.

The Specific Objective of the project is the following:

·    To prepare high qualified personnel in the water sector who will know all the existing solutions for the improvement of the water quality and will be in the position to put them into practice.

Project Activities

·    Desk and Field Research for the identification of the needs of the people working in the bottling water industry.
·    Laboratory Research for the analysis of bottled water samples.
·    On-line training sessions (e-learning courses) for the people working in the bottled water industry and other stakeholders.
·    Off-line training sessions (seminars and study visits).
·    Development of an on-line portal which will be used for publication by the universities and other Consortium members of all the research results in the sector.
