There have been more than 200 floods in the past hundred years in Catalonia, affecting mainly the coastal regions, with an increasing social and economic impact. Some events are highly remarkable for their impacts, such as the floods of 1962 in Vallès, 50 years ago, with more than 800 victims, the November 1982 floods (30 years ago) that affected a large part of Catalonia, South of France and Andorra or October 1987 floods, 25 years ago, that paralysed the metropolitan area of Barcelona and affected the entire Catalan coast.
In this context, and taking into account these anniversaries, the objective of the seminar was to propose a multidisciplinary approach to the study of floods and their impact, and to initiate a reflection for the improvement of measures and attitudes towards mitigation and adaptation to floods. The interdisciplinary forum provided by the Institut de l'Aigua of Universitat de Barcelona, as well as the participation of recognised experts from other Universities and Public Administration, is regarded the best framework to achieve this objective.
The Workshop is addressed to technicians, experts, consultants and university students / academics.
