IN CATALUNYA ALREADY THEY ARE THREE IMPLIED ELECTRICAL COMPANIES IN CORRECTING THE ELECTROCUTION OF BIRDS

This year 2005, another electrical company will begin in taking measures to avoid the electrocution of birds in Catalunya. This is Estabanell y Pahisa Energía S.A., that has signed an agreement of collaboration by three years with the Equip de Biologia de la Conservació - Àliga perdiguera of the University of Barcelona, the Diputació de Barcelona and the Miquel Torres Foundation, to apply antielectrocution measures to its electrical lines of distribution which are distributed in the Vallès Oriental and Osona (regions of the province of Barcelona) and some of the neighboring Gerona regions. A part of these lines is including within a territory of Bonelli’s eagle.

This agreement is added to which the Equip de Biologia de la Conservació - Àliga perdiguera has at the moment with other electrical companies as Fecsa-Endesa or Electra Caldense S.A. Within the frame of these agreements 325 dangerous electrical supports located in four territories occupied by eagles have been corrected already in the province of Barcelona and in two abandoned during the nineties. The preliminary obtained results in the reduction of the mortality of birds are considered very positive so far, although they are left still many supports dangerous to correct, as much in this sector as in other many nesting and dispersion areas in Catalunya. One hopes that throughout 2005 the rate of corrections will be intensified and that at the end of year they have been possible to surpass the 500 corrected dangerous supports.
