Gratefulness to volunteers of the Association of Friends of the Natural Parks

In August of 2003 the Natural Park of Sant Llorenç del Munt i l'Obac was affected by a fire that burned a total of more than 4,500 has. The Equip de Biologia de la Conservació - Àliga Perdiguera of the University of Barcelona, in collaboration with the Natural Park, initiated the year 2005 a study to value which is the more correct treatment of the burned wood to favor the biodiversity and specially the populations of rabbit and partridge, species that are prey of many raptors like the Bonelli's eagle. With this objective, throughout the Eastern area of the mountains of Sant Llorenç del Munt experimental parcels with different types of post-fire forest treatments have settled down where the effect of these treatments in the populations of the studied prey species will periodically be monitorized.

The first trial actions were carried out in the property of La Muntada (Sant Llorenç Savall), property of the Diputació de Barcelona included in a territory of Bonelli's eagle abandonned during years 90. In these actions collaborated the volunteers of the Cercle d'Amics dels Parcs Naturals de la Diputació de Barcelona. Near a hundred of enthusiastic volunteers attended the 7 morning sessions. The work consisted of the manual retirement of the fallen branches and its accumulation near the tracks to facilitate its later mechanical crushing.

The 14 of last December was made an explanation to the volunteers of the Cercle d'Amics dels Parcs Naturals of the first observed results. The lecture had a remarcable level of attendance and a very good welcome and participation on the part of the volunteers. From the Equip de Biologia de la Conservació - Àliga Perdiguera we want to thank very sincerely to the Cercle d'Amics dels Parcs Naturals de la Diputació de Barcelona the enormous interest and enthusiasm that have shown in the project.
