An important part of my research has approached nutrient and carbon cycles in seagrass dominated environments as well as the use of these systems as bioindicators.

In the last years, though, a growing interest on the whole system has also incorporated biotic interactions (herbivorism, competition with invasive species) and the role of marine landscape and herbivore behaviour in these interactions. These interests have yielded three main research lines, evaluating (1) the role of biotic processes and humans in the control of energy flows between trophic levels, both within and between ecosystems and mainly in seagrass dominated ones, (2) the use of bioindicators in marine seagrass ecosystems for monitoring (European water framework directive, marine reserves, protected ecosystems monitoring...), (3) the impact of invasive species in marine seagrass ecosystems. These research is basically developed in two geographical areas: the Mediterranean sea and the Indian ocean.
