1. Presentation.
The Depository Library of the United Nations DL/62 was given to the University of Barcelona in April 1963. It was the first awarded from the United Nations to a Spanish University.
The Library was placed in the Faculty of Law, where its head office remains today, thanks to the work of Dr. D. Manuel Díez de Velasco y Vallejo and Jose María Font I Rius, at the time professor of international law and dean of the law school respectively.
Dr. Victoria Abellán Honrubia, Professor of International Law in the Faculty of Law of the University of Barcelona, was in charge of the library at it’s founding.
Issue 4 of the journal “The News of the University Library of the Faculty of Law of the University of Barcelona” (“Noticiario de la Biblioteca Universitaria de la Facultad de Derecho de la Universidad de Barcelona”), which was published between 1963-1964, was dedicated to the United Nations Library. It included all the information about the awarding and some documents received at the beginning.
The volume of documentation and the thematic interest of the Library represents more than the legal framework and documentation centre for the investigation in the field of the Economic and Social Science: it represents the university’s continuing commitment to international justice.
