Research: Soil-plant relationships, Forest restoration, Forest fires, Soil organic matter, Radionuclides transfer in the soil-plant system

Research interests:
Soil-plant relationships under characteristic disturbances in the Mediterranean, such as forest fires and desertification processes, and under catastrophic soil contamination events (e.g. Chernobyl NPP accident). From this basic research, development of ecological restoration strategies and techniques.

Current research projects:
Coordinator of the European project: Prevention and Restoration Actions to Combat Desertification. An Intergrated Assement (PRACTICE).  CE FP7 DG Research, Environment, FP7-ENV-2008-1, grant agreement no. 226818. 01-09-2009 – 31-08-2012.

PI and member of the Management Committee: Gradual and Abrupt Global Climate Change and its effects on the Environment (GRACCIE). CONSOLIDER-INGENIO 2010, MEC, nº 22422. 2007-2011.

PI in the project: Post-fire forest management in Southern Europe. COST ACTION FP0701. 23 May 2008 to 22 May 2012.

Project Coordinator: Vulnerability of the Mediterranean Basin to Global Change: Response Strategies: Adaptation, Mitigation, and Restoration (FEEDBACKS). Programa Prometeo, Generalitat Valenciana. Ref.  PROMETEO/2009/006. 2009-2013.

PI and member of the Management Committee of the European project: Forest fires under climate, social and economic changes in Europe, the Mediterranean and other fire-affected areas of the world (FUME).  CE FP7 DG Research, Environment Grant nr. 243888.
