Our group, led by Carles Escera at the Department of
Psychiatry and Clinical Psychobiology, Faculty of Psychology, seeks to unravel the cerebral
mechanisms of cognitive functions, from attention and auditory
perception to working memory and executive control. We are also
interested in cognitive dysfunction in a broad spectrum of neurological,
neurodevelopmental and psychiatric disorders.Together with GRINVI, the group belongs to the Research Centre of Excellence in Cognitive Neuroscience, established by the Catalan Government (SGR2005-00953), is member of the Spanish network Red de Neurociencia Cognitiva, of the Ministry of Education and Science (SEJ2004-22481-E), and participates in the International Master Degree and the Intenational PhD Programme in Neurosciences of University of Barcelona.
Our group is also part of Brainglot, a consortium of six research groups supported by the Consolider-Ingenio 2010 Scheme of the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science on Bilingualism and Cognitive Neuroscience (CSD2007-00121) .
As methods, we use mostly behavioural analysis and event-related brain potentials, such as the mismatch negativity (MMN) and the novelty-P3, and together with different colleagues worldwide, we have access also to magnetoencephalography (MEG), functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and neurogenetic analysis.
