Research Assistant Position open in Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience

The Brainlab – Cognitive Neuroscience Research Group at the University of Barcelona, affiliated with the Institute of Neurosciences (www.neurociencies.ub.edu) and the Sant Joan de Déu Research Institute (IRSJD), is seeking to hire a Research Assistant to support a collaborative project with Hospital Sant Joan de Déu Barcelona. The project aims to investigate the impact of prenatal and perinatal musical stimulation on language acquisition and cognitive neurodevelopment in infants during their first year of life. The project is funded by the Fundaçao Bial (Portugal).

We are looking for a well-organized and responsible person with a strong interest in research and scientific project management. The successful candidate will provide technical and administrative support in the monitoring and implementation of the project. Tasks will include coordinating the schedule of experimental sessions, participating in participant recruitment and data collection, managing databases, and contributing to outreach and dissemination activities. This position offers the potential to transition into a PhD role, depending on the candidate’s qualifications and project development.

Key responsibilities:

  • Schedule coordination for recruiting 150 pregnant women and managing experimental sessions, including electrophysiological recordings at 0, 6, and 12 months, as well as neurocognitive developmental assessments.
  • Monitoring family adherence to the musical exposure program, implementing and overseeing strategies to ensure continued participation.
  • Participation in data collection during experimental sessions.
  • Data management: Maintaining and updating the project database, performing regular backups of data, protocols, documents, and results.
  • Support in drafting and designing dissemination materials, both for scientific and public audiences.
  • Maintaining and updating the project’s website and social media channels.
  • Planning and resource management: Coordinating with team members to optimize the use of available resources—both human and material.

Requirements:

  • Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Biomedicine, Neurosciences, or related fields. For eligibility to transition into a PhD position, an official Master’s degree in Neurosciences or a similar field is required.
  • Positively valued experience and skills:
    • Prior involvement in research projects with pregnant women, infants, or families.
    • Experience in clinical or hospital-based research environments.
    • Experience with EEG and/or neuropsychological assessment.
    • Familiarity with data management tools and digital platforms (RedCap, Excel, Google Drive, project management tools, WordPress).
    • Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to work in interdisciplinary teams.
    • Basic knowledge of website maintenance and social media content creation.
    • Experience in writing both scientific and outreach documents.
    • Musical skills and/or training

Working languages: Spanish and English.

Contract Conditions:

  • Contract type: Technical research support position with PhD opportunity.
  • Duration: 13 months (recruitment and data collection phases), renewable.
  • Work Schedule: Full-Time.
  • Estimated starting date: September 2025.
