CESNID's Board of Trustees holds a meeting to discuss its future

Board of Trustees' members with the Chair at the forefront, led by University of Barcelona's rector Dr. Dídac Ramírez.

The Board of Trustees of the Centre for Higher Studies in Nutrition and Dietetics (CESNID), chaired by University of Barcelona's rector, Dídac Ramírez, gathered on January 30th in the administration building (La Masia) of the Food and Nutrition Torribera Campus, in its 44th session since its creation on June 22, 1993.

This meeting is specially noteworthy since in the last 20 years CESNID Foundation has undertaken different training actions in the nutrition and dietetics fields, as well as in the promotion of professional activity and employability in these sectors. Due to these studies' attachment within the official UB bachelor's degree offer, there has been an obvious change in its founding objectives.

The nature of the Torribera Campus, born as a result of the transferring of a significant part of the teaching staff linked to Human Nutrition and Dietetics and Food Science and Technology bachelor's degrees, coupled with the location or connection of thirteen research teams in spaces of the Research building (Gaudí), has brought the Board of Trustees to agree on a three-month period to set the basis of its refoundation or updating of its constituent aims. Another issue to be discussed is the composition of the Board of Trustees, adding representatives of the directly involved areas, such as the health sector, the food industry sector, the gastronomy and high cuisine world and, eventually, the social institutions sphere.

The meeting was held in Classroom nº 3 of the Administration building (la Masia) in the Food and Nutrition Torribera Campus.

Among the justifications to promote this new stage for the Foundation, and within University of Barcelona's efficiency policies, it has been considered the opportunity to offer to such a broad, strategic sector as that of the food industry -today clearly a central actor in Catalonia's economic development- an interaction strategic platform (continued training, collaborative research, transferring and innovation) in all that referred to productive activities and the creation and dissemination of knowledge in food sciences. This positioning wish will be strengthened by the coordination and boosting activities which will have to be provided by what is known as the UB Group.

Likewise, and pending the Board of Trustees meeting that will have to approve the new Foundation model, work will focus on the celebration, next June, of the 20th anniversary under the motto "Twenty years (1993-2013) of the CESNID project: giving value to nutrition and dietetics".
