  • Research in Food and Nutrition Torribera Campus

    Research activities held in the laboratories of the Gaudí building (with a surface of 2.178 m²) are the consequence of the transfer of different research teams to the campus. This allows Torribera to host the main functions of teaching and research activity. The coordination of the research in the campus is developed by the Nutrition and Food Safety Research Institute (INSA), which sets its Direction and Secretary's offices in the research building of the Food and Nutrition Torribera Campus, up till now located in spaces of the Barcelona Science Park.

    Nutrition and Food Safety Research Institute

    University of Barcelona's Nutrition and Food Safety Research Institute (INSA-UB) is an own institute created in 2005 with 22 research teams and which was born to face the needs and demands of today's society concerning the research field, third-cycle education and service provision in health and food sectors. The research of the institute is grouped into three programs: Research in Nutrition and Functional Foods; Research in Food Safety and Research in Analytical Innovation.

    Research in Food and Nutrition in the University of Barcelona [HUBc, Campus of International Excellence]

    Research in the food and nutrition fields of the University of Barcelona is distributed between those activities carried out by the departmental labs and those undertaken by other research structures (centers and institutes). Among these entities, and apart from INSA, we find groups which belong to the Institute of Biomedicine of the UB (IBUB), the August Pi i Sunyer Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBAPS) and the Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL).

     

    HUBc, UB's health campus

    The HUBc, one of the Spanish Campuses of International Excellence that have been recognized by the Ministry of Education (2010), is promoted by the University of Barcelona to put together an aggregation of actors in the health field, mainly hospitals and research institutes. It gathers four teaching centers and six hospitals spread across different campuses, among which we can find the Food and Nutrition Torribera Campus, which stands out in those aspects related to human nutrition and dietetics and food science and technology.

    Promoting UB's external interactions in the nutrition and food fields

    Food and Nutrition Torribera Campus was born with a clear will to take part in the consolidation of that group of institutions, units and structures which are well established in Catalonia, and specially in the creation of an alliance between universities in order to help those sectors having to do with food to grow both economically and socially.

    UB-Bullipèdia Unit

    The UB-Bullipèdia Unit, found in the first floor of the administration building (La Masia) in the Food and Nutrition Torribera Campus (Santa Coloma de Gramenet), is an academic unit which serves as a supporting and counseling tool to the large project of the BulliPedia. It was created as a result of the collaboration agreement signed on October 23, 2012 between the rector of the UB, Dídac Ramírez, and Ferran Adrià, on behalf of elBulliFoundation. It is academically coordinated by professor Abel Mariné, Emeritus Professor of the Nutrition and Bromatology Department of the Faculty of Pharmacy, and by the investigator Pere Castells, acting as representative of elBulliFoundation. Castells takes charge of coordination between the UB-Bullipèdia Unit, the management of the Torribera campus and the expert team from UB and other universities and institutions that are part of the advisory group.
