Promotion of UB external interactions in the food sector

Lorem ipsumFood and Nutrition Torribera Campus was born with a clear will to take part in the consolidation of that group of institutions, units and structures already well established in Catalonia, and specially in the creation of an alliance between universities in order to help those sectors having to do with food to grow both economically and socially.

UB's interactions with other universities and external institutions

One of the main concerns of the Food and Nutrition Torribera Campus when it was born was to coordinate the steps already taken in order to apply all the strengths of the UB in the new campus along with the studies of Human Nutrition and Dietetics and Food Science and Technology, avoiding as well the duplication of consolidated actions developed in other campuses. Contacts have already been done so as to look for internal cooperation and efficiency relationships as well as promoting international competitiveness, with other projects like the Technological Center of Nutrition and Health (CTNS), promoted by Universitat Rovira i Virgili, the Clúster Agroalimentari developed by Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya and the Centre Especial de Recerca Planta de Tecnologia dels Aliments (CERPTA) attached to the Faculty of Veterinary of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. What's more, thanks to our fluid relations with Alícia Foundation and the specialized attached center University School of Hotel Management and Tourism (CETT) we find ourselves in a privileged position to notice the evident need for better contacts of cooperation and analysis regarding the potentials of a future university alliance in the food sector. These contacts should be established through strategic collaboration agreements involving promoting activities for the economic growth and an international university offer of quality. On the other hand, they must run in parallel and in harmony with the construction of a new map in the framework of the Catalonia's Strategic Agro-Business Plan 2012-2015 led by the Department of Agriculture.

Interactions with state structures related to the food sector

University of Barcelona, founding member of the Triptolemos Foundation, has proposed the developing, as an internal work team, of a Spanish net which groups the Campuses of International Excellence in the food sector. Over the last years, CEI projects have helped to prioritize thematic, scientific and sectorial areas in the productive economy and to promote strategic aggregations aimed to concrete actions of knowledge boosting inside the education-research-innovation triangle. The first meetings to set this agri-food net are carried out under the coordination of the UB's Food and Nutrition Torribera Campus, thus looking for a comprehensive approach about its potential and dedication in the framework of the Strategic Project.
