The master program in Cognitive Science and Language is divided into three itineraries that correspond to three research areas in language and on which Cognitive Science researchers work.

In each itinerary, the objective of the first year is to deepen students’ knowledge acquired in the degree and in this way to provide a wide platform from which to introduce them in the interdisciplinary research of cognition and language. The subjects and/or modules that we propose for the first year of the master are being taught in the second cycle of the current degrees (and they are going to be taught as long as the current degree exists).

In the second year, students must take at least two courses of the transverse basic module that are not from their own incoming disciplines. In order to obtain the interuniversity master degree in Cognitive Science and Language students must accumulate between 60 and 120 ECTS credits depending on the previous curriculum of each student.

Itinerary 1: Logics and Philosophy

This area offers to students an advanced training in the subjects that constitute the core of the contemporary analytic philosophy: philosophy of language, philosophy of mind, epistemology and metaphysics.

Itinerary 2: Grammar Theory and Linguistic Processing

This area offers to students an advanced training in the structure of language. The courses offered in this section cover linguistic research on different fields of grammar theory and on natural language processing, and also their interaction with the other fields in Cognitive Science.

Itinerary 3: Cognitive Models of Language Processing

Psychology tries to make students familiar with different fundamental questions concerning language processing, and also from a cognitive perspective. The subjects handle topics such as language acquisition, and language representation in the speakers’ brain. Besides transmitting to students the relevant theoretical information about these topics, it also tries to make them familiar with the experimental type of research that is realized in the field of language psychology.
