Rocío Nogales Muriel


Rocío Nogales is a PhD candidate at the University of Barcelona and a member of the Center for the Study of Culture, Politics and Society (CECUPS). Her research interest includes the consolidation of social innovation as a particular study and research field in Europe. More specifically, her thesis studies the relationship between social innovation and social entrepreneurship in the cultural sector and the creative industries.
She graduated from the University of Seville, Spain (BA in Communications) and earned a Masters in Art Management at Carnegie Mellon University (US), a Masters in Art History at the University of Pittsburgh (US), and a Masters in Management Science at the University of Liege (Belgium).
Since 2004, she has been the Managing Director of the EMES European Research Network (, which pioneered the study of the third sector and social enterprise in Europe. She is also a member of the Experts’ Group on Social Entrepreneurship (GECES) set up by the European Commission.
