Elisabet Almeda Samaranch

Professor of Sociology at the University of Barcelona and Director of Grupo interuniverstario Copolis "Welfare, Social Control", attached to the UB (GRC). She holds a PhD in Sociology from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, a Master’s Degree in Social Welfare and Social Planning from the University of Kent, in Canterbury, as well as a Postgraduate Diploma in Common Study Programme on Criminal Justice and Critical Criminology and a BA in Economics and Business Studies from the UB. Her research and teaching have centered on three main areas: criminal procedure system (social control, women’s delinquency, and women’s prisons), changes and family policies (one-parent families, the end of relationships, comparative family policies) memory and identity. Within these areas, she has conducted various research projects and has published numerous books and articles for scientific and social purposes. She participates in several networks, commissions and associations, most notably, she coordinates the International Thematic Network on Gender and Criminal Justice System (Geispe Network) and is a member of the International Thematic Research Network on One Parent Families (TIIFAMO Network, www.tiifamo.net )
