Masters in Cultural Institutions and Companies Management

Created in 1989, the "Master in Cultural Management" - called "Master in Cultural Institutions and Companies Management" from 2006 - is the pioneer cultural management postgraduate course in Spain. The accumulated experience in previous editions allows the design a programme, which is adapted to new realities in this field.

This is a two years course, with TWO DIFERENT VERSIONS:

  • A face-to-face version, in Barcelona, starting every two years. At the beginning of the first year, the course starts with a few weeks of on-line activites (septembre to dicember), and face-to-face classes start at the beginning of January. The second year is entirely face-to-face; it starts in September and ends in January.

  • An on-line version, starting every year, with two weeks of intensive face-to-face classes at the beginning of the second year.

  • This course addresses cultural managers interested in improving their theoretical education and their management techniques, in addition to University graduates, who want to specialize in Cultural Management.

Content, teachers, and methodology integrate knowledge and theoretical considerations with management techniques and its application.

The programme commences with an introduction to cultural policies, theoretical approaches, as well as economic and sectorial framework conditioning for Cultural Management. Following this, both public and private strategic management and basic management techniques are tackled. Some examples are accounting, marketing and human resources.

In the second year, specialisation in Arts production, Heritage Management or Cultural Industries is combined with the study of management techniques and resources including a reflection about new spheres of management and project analysis. The course is completed with either writing a project in Arts administration or, in specifica cases, a research essay. Students have also the possibility to do a training period in a Cultural Institution. Moreover, there are two study journeys foreseen.

The course is taught in SPANISH.
