Dr. Lluís Cabrera Pérez

Catedràtic

(Full Professor)

I started my research activity in 1976 as a bachelor student in the Department of Stratigraphy and Historical Geology. I gained my Sc. degree and Ph.D. in Geology from the University of Barcelona (1983) where I became a member of the staff from 1985 and I am currently Professor of Stratigraphy and Basin analysis. My research interests focuses on the analysis of stratigraphic records in continental basins (in Spain, Brazil, and Chile). These interests included the integrated application of Sedimentology, Sequence Stratigraphy, and 3D reconstruction and modeling of sedimentary bodies to the exploration, development, and production of coal and oil. Developing integrative stratigraphic basin analysis is the main aim of my research and students advising activity.

My scientific work has been for years ruled by mi interest on ancient lacustrine records. I was the Spanish local coordinator of the IGCP Project 219 on Ancient Lacustrine Records and one of the international coleaders of the IGCP Project 324 (Global Paleoenvironmental Archives in Lacustrine Systems). From 2004 to date I focused my activity on promoting or participating in research projects (CARES, MARES and REMOSS) on modelling and geostatistichal reconstruction of sedimentary bodies. I also paid attention to magnetobiochronology applied to basin analysis and to the improvement of the Paleogene and Neogene standard chronostratigraphic charts (CENOCRON project, 2004-2007), with some implications in the dating of significant miocene fossil Hominoids (SOMHI project, 2005-2006). All these activities were developed in the frame of the GEOMODELS institute and the research group of Geodynamics and Basin Analysis.
