Dr. Carles Martin ClosasProfessor titular (Professor) |
His research in Palaeobotany started in 1985 at the Institut des Sciences de l’Évolution, Montpellier. His main research subject is the Micropalaeontology of Cretaceous and Tertiary charophytes, especially biostratigraphy, macroevolution, palaeoecology and palaeobiogeography of these fossil algae. A second subject of research is the taphonomy and palaeoenvironmental reconstruction of lacustrine and palustrine ecosystems from Upper Carboniferous, Cretaceous and Tertiary basins. Since 2005 he is director of a research team involving 12 researchers from Europe, China and Argentina. In 2008 he was elected President of the International Organization for the Study of Extant and Fossil Charophytes (IRGC). He has supervised 2 doctoral theses and published more than 30 papers in ISI-indexed journals. |
