Dra. Anna Sànchez Vidal

Investigadora contractada

(Research contract)

I graduated in Environmental Sciences in 1999 at the University of Girona, and then I moved to the Consolidated Research Group of Marine Geosciences at the University of Barcelona, where I obtained the PhD in 2005. In 2006 I was granted a Marie Curie Intra-European Fellowship from the EC and I moved to the CEntre de Formation et de Recherche sur l'Environnement Marin (CEFREM-CNRS). In June 2008 I rejoined the Consolidated Research Group of Marine Geosciences. The main axis of my research is to characterise and quantify mass and energy fluxes on continental margin environments. I work across disciplines such as physics, geology and biology, which requires not only a deep knowledge but also a holistic understanding of the marine system. Based on a detailed characterisation of settling particles and sediments (geochemical composition) and a correct understanding of the external (meteorological conditions) and internal (current regime) forcing conditions to each studied environment (submarine canyons and open slopes), I aim at investigate (1) the natural drivers that control marine ecosystems, and (2) the potential climate change and human induced impact on these drivers.
