Dra. Rosa Domènech Arnal

Professora titular

(Professor)

I graduated in Geological Sciences at the University of Barcelona (1979), where I also obtained my PhD in 1983 with a doctoral thesis on systematics and palaeoecology of Pliocene marine bivalves from the Alt Empordà basin. Since 1986 I am Lecturer in the Palaeontology area of this university. My interests focus on the field of invertebrate palaeontology, specially Neogene and Quaternary marine molluscs. I mainly develop palaeoecological research related to the identification of interspecific relationships from ichnological evidence (bioerosion and bioturbation).

Geographically, my main working area is the Western Mediterranean, with extensions to other areas such as the South and Southwest of the Iberian Peninsula, South America or Florida. I belong to the research group "Paleobiology of the marine Neogene", in the framework of which I have directed two doctoral theses and have a third in progress. I conducted several research visits to foreign institutions: Institut Royal des Sciences Naturelles de Belgique, Musée d'Histoire Naturelle de Paris, Universidad Autónoma de Baja California, Universidad nacional de La Pampa, Universidad nacional del Sur (Argentina), Florida Museum of Natural History, etc.

I have presented more than a hundred contributions to national and international conferences, being Organizing Secretary of 4 international conferences/workshops and member of the organizing team of some others. I was secretary of the Regional Committee on Mediterranean Neogene Stratigraphy (1994-2004) and member of the executive board of the Spanish Society of Palaeontology (1999-2004).
