Perfil individual
Marine sedimentologist. Academic achievements: - 1997: PhD in marine geosciences at Cardiff University of Wales (UK) (RU) - 1990: Degree and MSc equivalent in Earth Sciences at the University of Milan (Italy) Research experience - 2007-present: contracted at the Univ. of Barcelona within the Spanish-IPY projects SVAIS and NICE-STREAMS in the Barrents Sea, north polar margins (P.I. A. Camerlenghi, ICREA-Univ. of Barcelona). - 2006-2007: scientific collaborator within the Spanish project PROSEDANT (Sedimentary Processes and products on three Antarctic continental margins: Paleoenvironmental, palaeoceanographic and paleoclimatic significance, P.I.: C. Escutia, CSIC Granada). - 2005: contracted by the GRC Geociènces Marines, Univ. of Barcelona, within the Spanish project PRODELTA (P.I.: M. Canals, Univ. Barcelona) - 2003-2004: research fellowship at the Istituto Nazionale di Oceanografia e Geofisica Sperimentale-OGS, Trieste (Italy) to work within the PNRA projects MOGAM and WEGA (east and west Antarctica) - 1998-2001: post-doc fellowship at the Dipartimento di Scienze Geologiche, Ambientali e Marine, Univ. of Trieste (Italy), for the PNRA Project SEDANO (west Antarctica) - 1992-1993: graduate research assistant of Prof. M.B. Cita at the Dep. of Earth Sciences, Univ. of Milan (Italy) for the EC Project MAST 1-MARFLUX (Mediterranean Sea), and an Italian project on Mega-turbidites of the eastern Mediterranean Sea. - Sediment transport and deposition (a source to sink approach) in the two main geographic oceanic environments: low and high latitude ocean margins. Although the basic formation is in marine sedimentology, my research lines include skill and knowledge in geochemistry, biostratigraphy, geophysics, and geomagnetism Research interests: I)Reconstruction of marine sedimentary processes and paleo-environmental conditions of Polar margins (Antarctic and Arctic) in response to last Quaternary climatic changes. II)Ocean basin evolution: sedimentological characterization of gravity mass deposits including turbidites, mega-turbidites, and debris flows: facies analysis, sediment characteristics, and deposits geometry. III)Sedimentary and geological processes associated to convergent plates (mud volcanoes, accretionary prisms). 1999-2000: Co-advisor for a Msc-equivalent thesis at the University of Trieste (Italy) related to Antarctic margins studies. Student: A. Caburlotto, other co-advisors: Dr. E. Colizza, and Dr. M. Rebesco. Co-convener, at the OGS (Trieste-Italy), for a workshop on Antarctic studies (II-WEGA workshop, April 2004). |
