Dr. Ferran Colombo Piñol

Catedràtic

(Full Professor)

In the early 1970s he undertook research into Mesozoic carbonate formations which resulted in his graduate thesis on the Cretaceous of the Serra del Montsià. The subject of his PhD Thesis was the stratigraphy and sedimentology of Lower Tertiary continental materials of the Catalan Coastal Ranges (Catalanides). He is also interested in Pyrenean Garumnian formations. He has studied the transport and accumulation processes of the volcano-sedimentary materials. He has undertaken research into the stratigraphy and sedimentology of the Paleozoic units in Algeria. He has worked on scientific divulgation projects and university extension activities. He is currently engaged in the study of the sedimentation and tectonics relationships in the Ebro Basin. He has studied the dynamics of the sediment transport in a flume (SIMGEO). He has carried out research into coastal sedimentary dynamics in the area of Rio Gallegos, Argentina. An active working line is the Stratigraphical and Sedimentological study of the Quaternary of the Barcelona Plain. He is currently working on the stratigraphy and sedimentology of the Upper Paleozoic materials in the Argentinian-Chilean Central Andes.
