Pau Arbués Cazo

Professor associat

(Lecturer)

I started research following graduation in Geological Sciences (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona) in 1987. The initial study consisted on a sedimentology study of deepwater rocks in the Eocene Jaca Basin, which lead me to a Masters Degree by Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona in 1988. From this date until 1999 I worked as a consultant geologist contracting regional mapping projects to the Catalan Geological Survey.

From 1999 I have been ascribed to research and teaching programs at Universitat de Barcelona, more particularly to the Stratigraphy, Paleontology and Marine Geosciences Department, but also being a member of the Geodynamics and Basin Analysis Research Group and member also of the Geomodels Research Centre. My research throughout this this period focused on terrigenous depositional systems in foreland basin context. From a methodological perspective, my research benefited from innovative techniques and developed new tools for mapping and 3-D reconstruction and modelling of structures and facies. Results were workflows, best practices, and predictive models applicable to hydrocarbon reservoirs and CO2 repositories.

The main research lines that I’m engaged to date are the study of the relationships between carbonate and terrigenous depositional systems, the characterization of deepwater mass-transport deposits, and the development of tools for the analysis and interpretation of virtual outcrops

A significant part of my geological activity is the organization and leading of training. A significant part of my geological activity is the organization and leading of training courses for the oil industry. Among these is the M56 course of the Geoscience Training Alliance (since 2000) and Combined Field and Facies Modelling courses in the Ainsa Basin, with ROXAR. Other activities include the participation and organization of meetings in terms of fieldtrips and workshops (as EAGE, Barcelona, 2010)
