Polyphenol research

The Natural Antioxidant Group is a part of XARTA (Food Technology Reference Net) and INSA (Nutrition and Food Safety Research Institute). It specializes in the study of polyphenols found in food, and in their bioavailability in humans and animals. It was founded in 1993 in response to the need to learn about the exceptional functional characteristics that polyphenols present. Following initial studies on wine and cava, our research projects now cover a wide range of foods.

The Biomarkers and Nutritional & Food Metabolomics research group is a part of Department of Nutrition and Food Science from the University of Barcelona, Fun-C-Food Consolider Project, and Food-Omics Network. Focuses its activity on the research of biomarkers of consumption and effect, and disease-risk biomarkers (metabolic syndrome, obesity, cardiovascular disease) in nutritional and epidemiological studies by both directed (focused) approach and metabolomics (not focused) approach. The group's research lines include the evaluation of functional ingredients effects in disease prevention by the study of human metabolism response to bioactive compounds of food..
