Dra. Polyxeni Gkontra

Polyxeni Gkontra is a post-doctoral researcher in the BCN-AIM group at Universitat de Barcelona and is currently working within the euCanShare H2020 project. She holds a Diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering and a MSc in Medical Informatics from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. She received her PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid in 2018 which focused on automated 3D image analysis and modelling of the infarcted heart response. During her PhD, she was a Marie Curie ITN fellow at the Spanish National Center for Cardiovascular Research, and she performed research stays at the John Hopkins University and at the Oxford Institute of Biomedical Engineering. Since 2010, she has participated in several national and EU research projects with a particular focus on developing novel automated medical and biological image analysis approaches. Her research interests lie in the area of Biomedical Engineering and include image processing and analysis, data science, machine learning and modeling for biomedical applications and personalised medicine.
