Sayago Barrantes, Sergio

Sergio Sayago holds a B.Sc. (2004) and a PhD Cum Laude (2009) in CS by Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona. As of October 2016, he is a visiting lecturer in the Departament de Matemàtiques i Informàtica at Universitat de Barcelona (UB). He was a Visiting Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science and Industrial Engineering at Universitat de Lleida during the period 2014-2016. Prior to that, he was a postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of Computer Science at UC3M (Madrid) with an Alliance 4 Universities Fellowship between 2012 and 2014, and in the School of Computing at University of Dundee (UoD, Scotland) with a Beatriu de Pinós Fellowship between 2010 and 2012. His research has introduced new perspectives on Human-Computer Interaction & ageing, wherein he has been doing research since 2004. He has published over 60 papers. Sergio has co-supervised 3 PhDs to completion in the field of HCI and ageing, and over 30 final degree projects. He has participated in 9 EU projects on ICTs, coordinating the WP of evaluation of 6 of them. Sergio led the writing of the ethnography WP of the Life 2.0 EU project (2M€) on older people and independent living; was the Co-PI of WorthPlay (246K€), an international 2-year project on digital games and older people, and is currently (2018-) leading two projects (OPEMEX - 15K CAD; AGORA 4.0 - 50K EUR) on digital making, embodied conversational agents, emotional digital experiences and citizen science with older and adult people in risk of social exclusion. Sergio has lectured for over 10 years (starting in 2004) at four top European universities, adopting different roles, from teaching assistant to coordinator, in undergraduate and graduate courses.
