Fossil Insect Database (Generic)

European palaeoentomologists are agreed that a computerised fossil insect database is a high priority as identified by the ESF Fossil Insect Network. The most recent global compilation of fossil insect genera is Carpenter (1992); unfortunately, the literature search for this monumental work ended in 1983.  Hundreds of fossil insect genera have been recognised since that date. These have been abstracted manually from reprints, books and journals in the collections of Mr Andrew Ross and Dr Ed Jarzembowski by Mrs Edna Clifford.  The first 500 genera were subsequently computerised by Mr Tony Mitchell and are published electronically here as a first supplement to Carpenter's Treatise.

On behalf of the abstracting team, I should be pleased to receive your comments and publications as work continues to complete the supplement.  It is hoped to increase the amount of information in the database in the future by expanding the team.
