It is with great satisfaction that we present to the scientific community the I Brazilian Symposium on Paleoarthropodology, I South American Symposium on Paleoarthropodology and I International Meeting On Paleoarthropodology, to take place from 3 to 8.9.2000, in Ribeirão Preto, São Paulo, Brazil. You are cordially invited to attend and participate in this event.

The fossil history of Insects and their associations with other organisms: A review of the data, patterns, analyses, and theoretical questions. During the Symposia and Meeting activities, a philatelic arthropod collection will be exhibited by Prof. Dr. Antonio Carlos Sequeira Fernandes (Museu Nacional-RJ, Brazil). "Atrapados en Ámbar". Coordinated by Prof. Dr. Jorge Wagensberg (Museu de la Ciência, Spain)
Contributions must deal with the subject: ARTHROPODA, without restriction about number of contributions, format or size. Photographs can be colourful or black and white, in paper or as attached-file, traditional or edited in PC. Drawings can be in ink, graphite or others. Artistic constructions will also be accepted. An ad-hoc Committee will be formed to evaluate contributions by categories. All contributions will be a a part of a special volume to be distributed together with the Abstracts to all participants. The contributions should be sent together with the registration form. Registration in the contest is free to the registered in the symposia and has a cost of USD 10 for those who want to participate only in the contest. Awards to the best contributions will be determined opportunely by the Committee and delivery of the awards will be accomplished during the official programming of the event.
An attractive social programme will be organised for participants and accompanying persons in Ribeirão Preto. We are programming a special presentation of Danza Flamenca at the Teatro Municipal de Ribeirão Preto (Tuesday 5.9.2000, 20:00), free of charge. On Wednesday 6.9.2000, the exhibition KARATE: UMA ARTE, by the members of the Tsuyoi Seishin Karate Association of Sertãozinho-SP, free of charge. In addition, many options in the city's nocturne circuit include disco, bar, and the famous 'chop do Pinguin' (beer).
Contributions can be presented as oral, poster or video format (author's choice). Oral presentations will be done in Portuguese, Spanish (Brazilian and South American Symposia) or English. The option of presentation as video session is suggested for the presentation of laboratories, museums, preparation techniques and trips. There are not restrictions about the content of the tapes, which is under authors' whole responsibility, as well as the quality of the image to be exhibited. Options for this modality should be limited to the VHS format (exceptional cases will be analysed by the Committee), not exceeding 30 minutes, and will be exhibited in the sessions of the official programming of the event. Any chosen option, it should be preceded by the registration and abstract(s) shipment. There is no restriction to the number of contributions.
One text page maximum, written in Portuguese, Spanish (Brazilian and South American Symposia) or English, in Times New Roman characters, size 12 and single spaced. All margins must be of 2 cm. Abstracts should not contain illustrations, tables, photos or bibliographical references and the text will be run without paragraphs or spaces in white. The abstract should contain the title in capital letters and in bold type, underneath, name of author(s), institution and complete address, including email. The document should be typed using word processor Word version 6.0 or newer and sent preferably by electronic mail as attached file. If not possible, it should be sent in 3 1/2 diskette. DEADLINE FOR ABSTRACTS: 31.4.2000. Abstracts volume will be distributed to the registered in the opening of the Symposia. Whole
papers will be received until the closing of the Symposia. Notes for authors
will be supplied in the next announcement.
Each poster should have a maximum size of 1 m high and 0,7 wide. Posters should be placed the previous day of presentation.
Whole papers, results of round-tables and conferences will be published in Acta Geologica Leopoldensia and have to follow the notes for authors. DEADLINE FOR PAPERS: 8.9.2000.
Official languages will be Portuguese, Spanish for the Brazilian and South American Symposia, and English. SCHEDULE 2000
