The History of the "Rolling" Conferences

This comes as Conference No 5, in a sequence of rolling conferences which began in Barcelona in 2004 with "Landscapes of Exile". The next convenor was Terri-ann White at the University of Western Australia under the title "Landscapes and Exiles: Belonging and Home" held in 2005 at New Norcia Monastery. The third conference in 2006 took place at Byron Bay and was organised by Baden Offord at Southern Cross University and titled "Landscapes of Exile: Australia Once Perilous, Now Safe" and this year saw the fourth conference organised by Peter Read at ANU titled "Indigenous Auto/Biographies"

THE CONFERENCE AND ITS THEME

The title for this conference was suggested to Sue Ballyn by Prof. Vin d´Cruz and we are most greatful to him for such a gift.

There will be no call for papers as we only intend to have some 50 speakers over the four days in single sessions with enough time after each to generate lively and fruitful discussion. As a result we are asking specialists in various areas to participate.

If however you feel that you would like to offer a paper then please contact the convenor, Sue Ballyn, on susand@arrakis.es as soon as possible

The title opens itself to any field and any approach. We are interested in fomenting interdisciplinary conversations and looking for papers that will cover everything from environmental studies to creative writing. Previous conferences hace covered exile, Convict Studies, Oral History, Geology, Theology, Environmental Studies, Art, Creative Writing, Spanish Civil War Studies, Indigenous Studies, Whiteness Studies, Queer Studies, Migration, Refugee Studies and the list can and hopefully will be extended.
