ECT is a research group from the University of Barcelona, acknowledged as consolidated by the Generalitat de Catalunya since 1999; it has taken part -and still does- in the research projects funded by the Spanish government and the European Union. Besides research projects, it carries out other dissemination and education activities.

Due to their centrality and social importance, ours is the science and technology era. Scientific and technological advances (and the "development" of the concerned economic system) put us in front of new ethical and social inavoidable problems as, for example, those related to biotechnology or to the fragility of the biosphere or of the "world" we live in.

Our research group, of interdisciplinary character, deals with science and technology ethics, as well as, with the social and anthropological implications arised from the technoscientific paradigm.

In which sense is technology the essence of our time? Which sort of ethical theory is possible for science and technology? How to boost it? How to understand the transition from ethical theory to an applied ethics? How a philosophical ethics gives rise to an environmental or to a bioethics? Which background changes are taking place as a result of the growing use of technology? How our view of the world, our perception of time or our way of imagining are modified? These ones are the questions heading some of our reflections and research and study projects.
