The UB stands out because of its international reputation in the field of research. The University of Barcelona occupies a distinguished place, on a global, European and national scale, in the most important rankings that focus on different variables of the universities. According to the QS World University Rankings, the UB is placed first in Catalonia and in Spain, 64th in Europe and 156th in the world.

Apart from the scholarships offered by the Ministery and by the Government, the UB has its own programme of scholarships for doctoral students (APIF). It also offers collaborational scholarships for teaching and research activities.

If you are from another country, the UB is the best university for a research stay. Foreign students are especially welcome and you can write your thesis in various languages (the majority of thesis at the UB are written in English, Spanish and Catalan, but other languages are also welcome)

The UB offers the chance to obtain a doctorate with international mention. Thanks to its international contacts, you can do research stays in other countries with the Erasmus programme. You can also write your thesis in co-tutorship (double title) with other universities.

8. A doctoral programme that suits you

Each doctoral programme has its own characteristics according to the different subjects. The programmes usually last three years and include training activities and research. It is also possible to do a part-time doctoral degree that lasts five years.
