Streelamps are one of the most significant elements in the urban landscape, a landscape working 24 hours and that it requires of the illumination.
The supports of this illumination have gone evolving in parallel to the design of the contemporary cities. They have gone adapting to the energy and technological changes. They have improved their efficiency and they have adapted their aesthetic to the technical, environmental and aesthetic requirements of the society to that they serve.
In her work of DEA, Sofía Aguas, she carried out a splendid analysis of the evolution of the streetlamps of Lisbon, from the date of 1755, when the tsunami, razed the old city of Olisipo to open the way to modern Lisbon.
In this electronic book of the collection e-polis, we present a complementary document of that thesis of DEA. Sofía Aguas developed an interactive catalogue in which can see the group of projects thought for the Lisbon streetlamps, as well as a splendid documentation picked up from old photographic archives.

Pocas veces podemos hallar un trabajo de investigación cuya mayor motivación sea la práctica profesional y que pretenda, a través de la misma, hallar respuestas a las preguntas que se plantean diáriamente a nivel profesional.

Este trabajo de Sergio Oliveira, tesis del Mestrado Desgin Urbano, es uno de ellos. La práctica profesional del autor como arquitecto municipal en el área metropolitana de Lisboa, le ha llevado a preguntarse y a intentar hallar respuestas, acerca de un tema que raramente preocupa a investigadores y políticos: cómo viven y cómo consideran el espacio público este grupo de personaas que agrupamos bajao la categoría de Adolescentes.

This book tries to establish the role of the museums and galleries of art in the regeneration of Liverpool. For the authors, after a period of interest towards the culture, now we are in front to the proclamation of investments in the culture to extract potential social benefits. If the museums and the culture create few working places (and even fewer for technical staff well paid), the culture can develop an important role in the urban regeneration of zones as the poorest areas of Liverpool in terms of physical renovation of the historical buildings, the development of new areas of life in decadent districts of the city and the social development of the community.

ART FOR SOCIAL FACILITATION. Waterfornts of Art I

Every two years, the Public Art Observatory, organizes in Barcelona the International Conference Waterfronts of Art. Every edition tries to study a topic linked with Public Art, Urban Design,Urban Regeneration. The first one of these conferences carried out in the Scientific Park of Barcelona, with the support of the ARCS programme of the Generalitat de Catalunya and of the research project PB95-0897 of the MEC was held in 1999.
The topic of this conference was that of the role of the art in the processes of social facilitation. The texts are organized in the chapters " Mapping the Waterfront ", " The Role of Public Art and Urban Design in the promotions of City's Social Identity ", " The Artist in front of Public Space ". The participants who contributed the texts were J. Verwijnen, R. Marshall, G.B. Ingram, J.P. Coast, M. McCormick, David Haley, Doug Sandle, P. Brandao - V. Vilela, B. Lucea, F. Como es habitual en los trabajos de J. Guilherme Abreu, en esta tesis se combinan el buen decir con el buen hacer sustentado en la tenacidad y la constancia, dos valores hoy en día poco presentes entre muchos investigadores del mundo del Arte.
La tesis se estructura en seis capítulos que constituyen una inmejorable presentación y guía del arte público de Porto.
Un elemento importante de esta tesis fue la confección de una base de datos que, obviamente no es accesible en este libro, pero que constituye un instrumnento de primer orden para el desarrollo de actividades de investigación y difusión sobre el arte público de esta ciudad.
