Ignasi de Lecea
El 28 de Novembre
de 2005 moria Ignasi de Lecea. Arquitecte, va ocupar
diversos càrrecs en l’administració d’urbanisme de l’ajuntament de
Barcelona.
Coneixedor de
l’Art contemporani, la seva sensibilitat artística ha
quedat dipositada
en moltes de les intervencions d’art públic de que la
ciutat de Barcelona és un bon model. Però Ignasi de Lecea també era un
subtil constructor de ciutat. La seva direcció d’innombrables projectes
de petita i gran escala ha deixat petjada en molts dels treballs que
s’estenen per tota la ciutat.
L’amor pel detall,
l’estima a les característiques del material i el
procedir per la simplicitat metodològica, són algunes de les principals
característiques de la seva direcció de projectes. Amant dels parcs i
jardins la seva petjada està també present en la plèiade d’espais verds
que esquitxen la ciutat.
En els últims
anys, Ignasi de Lecea es va dedicar intensament al
projecte del Sistema d’informació i gestió de l’Art Públic de la
ciutat. Iniciativa conjunta de l’Ajuntament i de la Universitat de
Barcelona, suposa un pas de gegant en les formulacions de difusió de
l’art públic... però també, en tant que el projecte posseeix una
estructura museística clara, respecte al seu estudi i investigació en
relació al desenvolupament de la ciutat i la seva memòria.
Per a Lecea l’obra
d’art en l’espai urbà, era monument, amb
independència de la seva voluntat de commemoració, quan catalitzador de
simbolisme social i agent de la conservació de la memòria. Gran
comunicador, mestre de fina ironia anglesa, Ignasi de Lecea estimava la
docència i la seva mort coincideix amb el moment que aquesta passió
anava a vincular-se de forma sistemàtica en els nous màsters de la
Universitat de Barcelona dedicats al tema.
Malgrat no estar
enquadrat en una estructura acadèmica, moltes
delegacions d’arreu del món recorden les seves explicacions sobre espai
públic barceloní i de la intrínseca relació entre aquest i l’Art Públic
de la ciutat. També ho recordaran els arquitectes de Pontevedra que
assistissin als cursos organitzats pel col·legi d’aquella demarcació i
els estudiants portuguesos del Postgrau en Design Urbà (1999 -2003),
dons varen poder gaudir de les seves explicacions en el marc dels
seminaris desenvolupats
a Lisboa i de les
Jornades BCN- LX a la ciutat Comtal.
El detall, la
precisió i el bon fer definirien la personalitat d’un
home bo i savi que, per desgràcia, ens ha deixat un buit molt difícil
d’omplir.

PREMIS
Aquests premis són
un homenatge a Ignasi de Lecea i una producció del
grup de recerca consolidat per la Generalitat de Catalunya Art, Ciutat,
Societat - CR Polis de la Universitat de Barcelona, per a la xarxa
temàtica PAUDO (Public Art and Urban Design Observatory)
El seu objectiu és
premiar bianualment aquelles iniciatives
d’ajuntaments o administracions públiques, universitats i entitats
privades sense ànim de lucre que hagin desenvolupat iniciatives,
projectes i investigacions tendents a una millor producció, gestió i
difusió de l’art públic i el disseny urbà.
Els premis són
honorífics i es convoquen cada dos anys. El lliurament
dels premis es realitzarà en el mes de setembre dels anys imparells en
el marc del Simposi Internacional “Waterfronts of Art” que es realitza
a Barcelona, organitzat pel grup d’investigació i el CR POLIS

Ignasi de Lecea
On 28 November 2005 Ignasi de Lecea passed away. As
an architect who held numerous positions of responsibility in the
management of Urban Planning in Barcelona City Council
He was a connoisseur of contemporary art. He bestowed his artistic
sensitivity on many projects in the sphere of Public Art for which
Barcelona has become an international reference.
But Ignasi de Lecea was also a subtle city-builder. With his guidance
on countless projects, both large and small scale, he has left his mark
on many of the works spread throughout the city. A love for detail,
knowledge of features of materials and methodological simplicity are
the main characteristics of his project management. A lover of green
areas, his influence can also be noted in the prominent array of parks
and gardens dotted around the city.
In recent years Ignasi de Lecea tirelessly devoted himself to the
city’s Public Art Information and Management System project. This
initiative, run jointly by the City Council and the University of
Barcelona, is a major step forward, not only in the form in which
information on Public Art is given, but also in the clear, museum-like
structuring of the project with relation to study and research on the
development of the city and its history. For Lecea, a work of art in
the urban space was not just a monument, but a catalyst for social
symbolism and an agent for preserving history.
A great communicator and master of English irony, Ignasi de Lecea
profoundly enjoyed teaching and his death was at a time when this
passion was about to take shape on the new Masters courses at the
University of Barcelona, dedicated to the same subject.
Although not presented within an academic framework, many visitors from
around the world will remember his talks on public space in Barcelona
and its intrinsic relationship with the city’s Public Art. He will also
be remembered by the architects from Pontevedra (Galicia, Spain) who
attended the courses organized by their local Register of Architects,
and the Portuguese students who took the postgraduate course on Urban
Design (1999-2003), where they enjoyed the lectures that he gave in the
framework of seminars held in Lisbon and the BCN-LX workshops in
Barcelona.
An eye for detail, accuracy and care would be the best way to define
the good and wise man who, unfortunately, has left us, and whose place
will prove difficult to occupy.
THE AWARDS
These awards are homage to the memory of Ignasi de Lecea and an
initiative of the research group “Art, City, Society” consolidated by
the Generalitat (the Autonomous Government of Catalonia) - CR Polis at
the University of Barcelona, for the PAUDO network (Public Art and
Urban Design Observatory).
The awards are for those city councils, public administrations,
universities and private non-profit entities that have carried out
initiatives, projects or research, aimed at enhancing the production,
management and dissemination of public art and urban design.
Nominees for the honorific awards will be convened biannually and the
awards will be presented in September of alternate years within the
programme of the International Symposium “Waterfronts of Art”, held in
Barcelona and organized by the research group and the CR POLIS.
