The highest-ranked Spanish university, The University of Barcelona is placed at 166th in the 2014/15 QS World University Rankings. It was established in 1450, which makes it one of the oldest higher education institutions in the world, with rich traditions dating back to the Medieval Ages.

Currently, more than 90,600 students are enrolled in the university, across 18 faculties and 100 departments, which offer a wide array of undergraduate and postgraduate courses. It ranks within the world’s top 100 for many of the subject areas covered by the QS World University Rankings by Subject.


The University of Barcelona Sports Department mission is to provide sports, health and leisure services for the Barcelona Knowledge Campus community and the general public, and aims to make its services known to prospective Spanish and international students who visit Barcelona for intensive periods of study.

UB Sports prioritizes quality service and management excellence, aiming to improve health, interpersonal relations and quality of life and to contribute to the ongoing development of wider society. Its 100,000 square metres of facilities host a wide range of organized and informal activities and include a series of installations for use by the university community and the general public. These include a swimming pool, paddle tennis courts, fitness and activities rooms, football pitches with natural and artificial turf, a rugby pitch, a general sports centre and an athletics track.
