ProActive has decided on the most creative GBL scenarios. Congratulations to all designers!
ProActive has organized a competition for rewarding the best game-based learning scenarios. The aim of the competition was to encourage creativity of educators working in Lifelong Learning sub-programs. The winners will have the chance to participate in the final ProActive conference (GACET’11 - Game and Creativity in Education and Training) which will be held in Rome on November 17-18, 2011. Among all participants, the jury has chosen winners according to the following criteria: › Learning aspects: Does the scenario answer to a clear learning objective? Is the game adapted to the specific students’ profile? › Gaming aspects: Does the game engage the player? Are the game’s rules clear and consistent throughout the whole game? › Technical aspects: Is the game easy to use? How appropriate are the graphics for the target group? All the games will be made available in the following months through the ProActive repository.
Results:
Spain Among the 13 games created, there are four winners: - "El torque sagrado" (the holy torc), an adventure game in which primary school students can learn about the local culture of Galicia. ProActive at EDEN Open Classroom Conference
An article on ProActive has been presented to the EDEN Open Classroom Conference, titled "Never Waste a Crisis! –Inclusive Excellence, Innovative Technologies and Transformed Schools as Autonomous Learning Organisations". The conference was held from the 27th to the 29th of October 2011 in Athens. It aimed to bring together individuals and teams from a wide range of technology and education fields to look into the future of education and to share their visions as to what the learning experiences and educational technologies could be like and how could be implemented in the daily school practice. The article, presented by the University of Barcelona, describes the first results of ProActive implementation in Spanish primary and secondary schools. GBL2011 Summer School
ProActive has been presented at the GBL2011 Summer School, which took place in Autrans (France) from June 26 to July 1st.
The 7th CNRS School on Technology Enhanced Learning was organised in collaboration with the community of the STELLAR network of excellence and focused on Game-Based Learning. Students, researchers and industrial partners working in the field of computer-based education presented their work and share experiences on GBL.

UPDATE newsletter
UNINA research group, represented by NAC lab, produced the first issue of the AISC Newsletter (Associazione Italiana di Scienze Cognitive): UPDATE. AISC is a young organization aiming to foster research and applications of cognitive science in Italy. Moreover it aims to shed light on innovative technologies applied to behaviour study. ProActive in Media & Learning 2011
Just a week after the exciting two-day conference in Rome, ProActive was represented in the Media & Learning 2011 conference sponsored by the European Comission and the Flemish Ministry of Education and Training, which took place in Brussels (Belgium) on 24-25 November. On Thursday 24th Baltasar Fernández Manjón, from Complutense University of Madrid, participated in a thought-provoking panel titled "What is the best business model for a learning game?" where pros and cons of different GBL models were discussed. Baltasar Fernández defended the benefits of the ProActive's model, that heavily relies on teacher-generated content (i.e. games).On Friday 25th, Baltasar Fernández and Javier Torrente (Complutense University of Madrid) run a stand where ProActive games and products (special emphasis on ) where demonstrated to all participants interested.
