  Isabel Verdaguer

Isabel Verdaguer is Senior Lecturer in the English Department of the University of Barcelona. She studied at the Universities of Barcelona and Reading, and received her Ph.D. from the University of Barcelona. She has been a visiting researcher at the University of Birmingham and the Université Catholique de Louvain, and has delivered invited lectures and seminars at the universities of Düsseldorf, Politécnica de Valencia, Lleida and Göteborg. She has published extensively on the history of translation, contrastive linguistics, corpus linguistics and lexicology. She is on the editorial board of SELIM and has been on the board of Atlantis, BELLS, and the Journal of the Spanish Society for English Renaissance Studies. She has recently co-edited (2013), with Natalia Judith Laso and Danica Salazar, Biomedical English: A corpus-based approach (Amsterdam/Philadelphia: John Benjamins Publishing Co.).

 

She has coordinated several research projects –the present one on the analysis of academic discourse, funded by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (FFI 2011-28947)– and participates in the international project VESPA (Varieties of English for Specific Purposes dAtabase). She has also participated in several projects of teaching innovation, coordinated by Natàlia Judith Laso, and is a member of the teaching innovation group GIDC-Gramàtica I Lingüística Anglesa.
