Admission to university master's degrees for students in posssession of a degree issued outside Spain

Español

Students who wish to pre-enrol in a university master's degree at the Faculty of Philology may submit their academic documents online. Legalized and translated copies are not required at this stage.

Once students have been admitted by the Master's Committee, they must obtain official translations and complete the applicable legalization procedure. The documents must then be submitted at the Faculty Office, together with copies for certification.

Documents requiring legalization and/or translation:

- Degree or diploma certificate.

- Academic certificate listing the subjects completed and grades awarded.

- Certification by the competent authority that the academic qualification held by the student in question grants access to university master's degree studies in the country of issue (holders of a European Diploma Supplement do not need to provide this certification).

How to proceed:

1. Legalization

Documents must be legalized by the appropriate diplomatic channel or, where applicable, with the affixation of the Hague Convention apostille . The specific procedure varies according to the country of issue and the country in which they are required. Information on the legalization procedure should be obtained from the university at which the course of study was completed .

Documents issued by European Union member states and countries signatory to the Agreement on the European Economic Area or a bilateral agreement with the European Union do not require legalization . However, certificates issued by universities in these countries must have been issued with the approval of the rector or equivalent figure and bear the corresponding signature.

Full information can be found at;

http://www.ub.edu/acad/noracad/documents/en/legalitzacio_en.htm

NB. The legalization or apostille must appear on or be attached to the original document . Legalized copies will not be valid for enrolment in a university master's degree (except for documents issued in China and Iran, see Countries with specific legalization procedures)

2. Official translation

Original documents that were not issued in Catalan, Spanish or English* must be submitted together with official translations into Catalan or Spanish. Documents requiring legalization must be translated once this procedure has been completed. The official translation must therefore include all text relating to the legalization procedure.

Official translations accepted :

- Official translation by a sworn translator/interpreter registered in Spain, who must appear in the Updated listed of sworn translators-interpreters published by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MAEC).

- Official translation issued by the relevant diplomatic authority in the country of issue or country in which the documents are to be submitted.

- Official translations abroad: to be valid this translation must bear legalization of the translator's signature

3. Certified copies

Original legalized documents and their official translations, if required, must be submitted to the Faculty Office together with copies for certification. The originals will be returned to the student (opening hours for the Faculty Office).

Students who are unable to deliver their documentation in person must obtain certified copies from a notary public registered in Spain, or the Spanish diplomatic or consular authorities in the country of issue, and send them by ordinary post to the following address:

Secretaria d'estudiants i docència

Facultat de Filologia

Universitat de Barcelona

Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, 585

08007 BARCELONA

4. Payment for the study of equivalence of a foreign academic qualification

The current fee for the study of equivalence is €216.86*). The fee must be paid at the Faculty Office once students have submitted the original documents and copies.

Students who send their documents by ordinary post will be notified of payment options once the documents have been received and reviewed.

* As set in the Government of Catalonia's Decree on fees for the academic year 2013-2014 , valid until July 2014.

5. Authorization for enrolment

Once the fee for the study of equivalence has been paid, students holding a degree issued by a university in the European Higher Education Area (EHEA)** may complete the enrolment process. The enrolment period opens in mid-July and closes at the end of October. The exact dates will be announced on this page.

Students holding a degree issued by a university OUTSIDE the EHEA must complete an application form requesting authorization to enrol.

** Countries within the EHEA framework : European Union member states and countries signatory to the Agreement on the European Economic Area or a bilateral agreement with the European Union. Also, Albania , Andorra , Armenia , Azerbaijan , Bosnia and Herzegovina , Georgia , Moldova , Montenegro , Macedonia , Russia , Serbia , Turkey , Ukraine and Vatican City State .
