Internal quality assurance
The European Network for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ENQA) sets criteria to establish an internal quality assurance system (IQAS) for EU universities to analyse and improve the quality of their educational activity and education programs. Within this framework, Spain’s new EHEA bachelor’s and master’s degrees must undergo an accreditation procedure every six years, and the University of Barcelona has begun to implement its IQAS program to do this.
At our Faculty, the vehicle for implementing the IQAS is the Faculty of Philosophy Quality Assurance Committee, which takes charge of promoting, monitoring and improving a series of quality-related procedures and processes. As with all UB faculties, our IQAS is managed by the University of Barcelona Agency for Policy and Quality (see also www.ub.edu/agenciaqualitat/inform_general/objectius.html [in Catalan]), and the system itself is based on the AUDIT program, a joint initiative of ENQA member agencies which aims to design a quality assurance system based on harmonizing procedures and evaluation mechanisms.
