Techniques and Methodology
The department has several techniques available for the study of intestinal nutrient absorption and secretion, studies on nutrition at cellular level and for the study of the drug-nutrient interactions. Examples of such techniques are:
Preparation of suspensions of viable enterocytes.
Preparation of apical (brush border) and basolateral membrane vesicles.
Intestinal perfusion in vivo.
Cell culture. The department has a room specially adapted crops.
Use of radioactive isotops. The department has a Peripheral Service Radioisotope Laboratory of the Faculty .
Immunocytochemistry. Northern. Western.
Immunofluorescence
The Serveis Científico-Tècnics of the University of Barcelona give technical support to research in the fields of chemical analysis and in studies at the microscopic level (light, transmission, scanning and confocal).
Intestinal Transport group focuses on studying the functions of intestinal nutrient transport , especially monosaccharides , amino acids and lipids.
