Quality awards

The quality awards of the doctoral programs assessed by the National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation (ANECA) and awarded by the Ministry of Science and Innovation constitute an official recognition of the scientific, technical and educational quality and reliability of doctoral programs offered by the Spanish universities and by the groups and departments participating in these offerings.

UB quality awards

For the academic year 2008-09 a total of forty-three UB doctoral programs received quality awards, and a total of thirty of these programs were EHEA-adapted offerings—figures which testify to the University of Barcelona's particular prominence and strength in the area of assessed programs.

Assessment

Quality awards may be issued to programs at the end of an external evaluation process that examines different aspects and features of the course, including teaching curricula, course structure and proposed learning outcomes and objectives. It must also be said that in the UB's case, and with the objective of ensuring course quality, these programs have already undergone a process of internal assessment, with the approval of a UB-specific evaluation model tailored to specific aspects of each program.

Financial aid

The quality award distiction enables students and teaching staff to participate in mobility grant calls made by the Ministry of Education, and to apply for different kinds of funding. In the students' case, it also covers grant applications for those who need to relocate to Barcelona in order to study the course.
